Ben Aiken, MD, MSPH is Appalachian born and raised, growing up over the mountains in Tennessee.
Holding degrees in international studies, public health and medicine, Dr. Aiken graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2013. With a strong desire to return to the mountains, he completed the MAHEC Family Medicine Residency Program in Asheville, where he now lives with his wife Amy and two children.
With a family of his own, he feels increasingly connected to our collective community and looks to each day as an opportunity to seek adventure and balance in this landscape, including the wonderful privilege of caring for and empowering people and families in striving for optimal health.

After growing up in Maryland, Rachel Hines, MD, MPH moved to Rocky Mount, North Carolina, for the Teach for America program.
She taught high school science for three years and then decided to pursue her medical degree and public health degree at the University of North Carolina. There, she also completed her Family Medicine residency and obstetrics fellowship.
Since completing her training, Dr. Hines, along with her spouse, son and two trail-loving dogs, relocated to the mountains where she now cares for our local Asheville community and members of Avenu Health.
Dr. Hines is a firm promoter of direct primary care. While taking advantage of a trusted relationship between physicians and patients, Dr. Hines believes that direct primary care casts off many limitations imposed by traditional healthcare and insurance.

Amy Rose is a health coach at Avenu Health.
Holding both a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from North Carolina Central University in 1995, Amy has worked in several areas of healthcare including oncology, pediatrics, home health and cardiology. She has also worked in long-term care as a staff development coordinator and director of nursing services.
Amy has a unique combination of strong nursing skills and a passion for exercise and health. In her free time, Amy is an avid runner and has completed a marathon and numerous half marathons. She also enjoys weight lifting, indoor cycling, hiking and kayaking. She has lived in Asheville for 15 years with her husband, Doug, and their two girls and loves the healthy lifestyle promoted by this beautiful city.
She believes success comes from building a long lasting and trusting relationship with patients. By taking the time to listen and understand each patient’s needs, Amy’s true desire is to help each patient live a long, healthy and happy life.
